Vampire by Rae Iolene

Vampire

The curse goes like this:

breath at first light

death at moonlight

first kiss under starlight.

Some say it’s beautiful—

the transformation.

Others say it’s demonic,

a sin. But I say: I’d rather

read about myself in

library books. The artwork

is terrific!

There isn’t anything fancy

about being a vampire.

We have a number of rituals,

comparable to Halloween,

and Christmas and Easter,

but know, I’m just a girl,

flipping through Cosmopolitan,

lava lamp lighting the way,

and a wade of Hubba Bubba

Bubblegum on my bed post.

I’m not that different. Okay?

Just please don’t look in my fridge—

HEY!
